The office Adventure Club organized a trip to Matheran this August. I had never heard of the place before. But once I asked the mumbai crowd at work, it was pretty obvious to me that Matheran was an extremely popular weekend-trip kinda destination. What I heard of the place from them interested me - hills, rains, mist... I convinced my mumbaiya friend to come along for the trip...cajoled him, more like it! promised him that we would discover the virgin lands of Matheran, we would go where even he (who has been to Matheran numerous times) hasn't been to....etc etc... Finally, he gave in.
So on a friday afternoon, a group of 79 youths boarded a train to go to Matheran.
Matheran was beautiful, it was green..green...green...with patches of red in it...the colour red is in its soil... It was raining when we reached Matheran, it was raining all the time we were there, and it was raining when we left Matheran. Never in my life have i got as drenched as the day we reached Matheran...i wasnt carrying an umbrella or a raincoat... Once you reach the resort, there's not much to do...as in just walking around the place, exploring it... We walked and walked and walked. And it rained and rained and rained. It seemed like there was a hole in the sky and water would JUST NOT stop pouring on us! But the walks and the rains made it one of the most adventurous trips I have ever been on...the constant fear of leeches (I am scared to death of them!)..the monkeys all over the place...the slimy snakes in the monsoon...and in the misdt of it all, we followed some weird trail and landed up at some typical poorani-mandir kinda setting...god! that place was scary and creeeeeepyyy!!!!! straight out of some spooky movie, it seemed! somehow i created a fuss and got out of that freaky trail... :) The other thing I will NEVER forget about the Matheran trip is the feeling when you just dont have anything dry to wear!!
